All the goodness of your traditional gooey brownie, with the added yumminess of Nutella! Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate – how can you go wrong with that?
Happy FRIDAY! What are your plans for the weekend?
Whatever they are, I GUARANTEE you that I have a way to make them better. And I always keep my promises, guys – I am not a “let’s grab coffee sometime!” and then ghost person; I promise that I will never again pay for a first date* ever ever again, and I PROMISE that these Nutella brownies will improve your life in a major way. Don’t doubt me, just do it.
*Thank you, boy who catfished me and ended up looking like Beans from Even Stevens, and THEN made me split the check, for ensuring that mistake will never transpire again…
Back in college, there was one fro-yo place that was the undisputed favorite of every UVA student – Arch’s. Not only because it was located so close to grounds, or because it was cheap, but because one of their topping choices was gooey brownie. That’s right – straight up warm brownie batter, served atop the frozen yogurt flavor of your choice. HEAVEN. And if you weren’t feeling the fro yo and only wanted the brownie? 87 CENTS*. EIGHTY. SEVEN. CENTS. For pure bliss and happiness? I’d pay that times a million.
*They later moved to a self serve pay by weight option that ratcheted that price up to about $10, which in retrospect was likely very good for my health.
These days, whenever I make a batch of brownies, I save a little bit of batter in the bowl to microwave for a hot sec and then throw on some ice cream. SALMONELLA BE DAMNED. And, I must say, adding Nutella into that mix was everything I never knew I needed. If you’re willing to take a gamble on your health this weekend, might I suggest you do the same?
Make these this weekend, guys. I’m not asking you, I’m telling you. #noragrets
To make these brownies, you will need:
– 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1/4 cup Nutella
– 2 eggs
– 5/8 cup cocoa powder
– 3/4 cup unbleached all purpose flour
– 1/2 t baking powder
– Pinch salt
– 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Begin by preheating your oven to 350F and greasing an 8×8″ baking pan.
Melt your butter entirely in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the granulated sugar and stir until sugar is fully dissolved, about 3-4 minutes. Remove this mixture from the heat and add the Nutella.
Transfer the Nutella mixture to a bowl and allow to cool slightly while you whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate small bowl. Set aside.
Add the eggs and cocoa powder to the Nutella mixture, stirring quickly so that the eggs do not scramble from the heat. Add the flour mixture and stir just until no streaks of flour remain.
Stir the chocolate chips into the batter, then spread the batter into your prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until set but sill slightly gooey (depending on your preference – gooey brownies are my personal fave!). Remove from oven and let cool, then dig in!
Mmm, Nutella 😉
